Pond Liners, which are the protective casing for a garden pond, come in a variety of materials, prices, shapes and sizes. Rubber Pond Liners are considered among the best. The most popular rubber liner is the EPDM liner (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer liner). When building a pond using a rubber liner it is best to dig a hole first and then order a liner to go inside it. To measure the liner needed you can use the following measurements: Liner length= max. length + max. depth + max. depth + 2ft.Liner width= max. width +max. depth + max. depth + 2ft.

Rubber liners are sold in three forms: pre-cut, custom cut, and rolls. Pre-cut liners simplify decision-making about the size and shape of your pond. Custom-cut are more flexible. But most people use EPDM liners, which are economical and easy to handle, strong and fish-friendly, and long-lasting when protected from sunlight.

Rubber liners are easiest to work with even in cold temperatures. Rubber liners let you make a pond any shape, depth or size, while maintaining a natural look. If you plan to have fish in your pond, remember to get a fish-friendly rubber liner because sometimes the EPDM is lined with harmful chemicals.

To compare two Pond Liners: EPDM liners are 45 mm thick. They are safe for fish and plant life, highly flexible and designed to withstand U.V. radiation. Compare that to PVC plastic liners which are 30 mm thick, available in black or gray, less expensive than EPDM, flexible, and easy to install and customize.

 

Purchase your liner in a single sheet large enough to cover the bottom and sides of the pond. Liners are commonly cut and sold from 100 ft rolls that are 10-20 feet wide. You can even custom order liners up to 45 ft wide.

Flexible plastic liners are also available. Some of them are P.V.C (Poly Vinyl Chloride) and H.D.P.E (High Density Polyethylene). However, they are not as flexible as rubber liners.
